| From family to friends to co-workers, news of cancer hits everybody hard. Nobody else, however, will be changed by it so much as you, the patient. For the patient, cancer can be a sentence of despair, a challenge to the spirit, or most likely, a mixture of both. There will be times of great difficulty and times of great hope. Some days you may feel as though you have never been sick, while other days may find you wondering what it felt like to be well. Your experience with cancer depends on a multitude of factors in which you have no control—genetic history, available drugs, physical condition—but it is also strongly influenced by many areas in which you do. By becoming an educated and proactive patient, you will better understand on how to work with your doctor to ensure the best and longest quality of life possible. |
